Gearing Lead

Department: Gears
Location: Duluth, GA

About The Role

The Gearing Lead is responsible for all gearing shop activities. You will drive team activities to meet department goals/KPIs, ensures the shop is properly supplied, ensures all equipment is within calibration requirements, provides training and guidance to other gearing technicians, sets workload assignments for the team, prioritizes work to meet customer demands, and communicates any issues with the department supervisor and/or manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for communications to production supervisor, gearing team members, other departments, etc., to accomplish production goals
  • Leads team activities and efforts to meet department goals, supports supervisor in assigning daily tasks
  • Maintains production status report and communicates daily to Production supervisor and/or manager
  • Updates work instructions for orders as needed
  • Coordinates with Application Engineering to verify accuracy of BOMs
  • Confirms TO's after orders have been picked
  • Receives delivery notes and moves parts to correct locations in SAP within designated timeframe. Notifies production supervisor/manager of any quantity discrepancies
  • Closes out all orders in a timely manner
  • Performs quality inspections and documentation on finished goods prior to shipping
  • Verifies parts quality and follows process for reporting bad parts to the quality team
  • Maintains a quality review and training program
  • Champions the WEG safety culture
  • Ensures all team members comply with all PPE requirements
  • Ensures team cohesion, accountability, and compliance with all WEG policies
  • Delegates and verify all daily equipment operation checklists are properly completed
  • Supports the production supervisor in special projects to improve overall efficiency and productivity
  • Implements improvements through Kaizen projects
  • Issues and verify all daily cleaning assignments (5S champion)
  • Conducts daily team meetings to review team performance and KPI's. Updates team with capacity percentages (weekly / monthly)

Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience

Knowledge/ training (preferred):

  • Extensive knowledge of gear assembly & schematics
  • Understand and follow safety procedures
  • Accomplished mechanical assembly experience
  • Proven history of properly following written procedures
  • Proficient in the use and operation of manual tools and power tools in hands-on applications
  • Forklift operation experience required
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office software
  • Experienced utilization of SAP or other business software required
  • Ability to coordinate all production orders, using all available resources, to completion per schedule
  • Proficient in use of all test equipment procedures and interpreting test results accurately
  • Ability to identify physical nonconformities on gear boxes
  • Knowledge to properly identify materials & components gear assembly
  • Ability to guide and perform training for team technicians on all gear assembly

Education

  • High school education is required
