Primary Objective of Position:

The Manufacturing Engineering Engineer is the first point of contact for Manufacturing Process and Product issues. Responsible for defining, evaluating, and improving Manufacturing Methods and Processes to optimize safety, quality, and efficiency. Utilizes engineering and manufacturing drawings, work instructions, process specifications, or process labor routings to improve execution of manufacturing processes to reduce rework, expense, and schedule. Additionally, this position will be part of the production support team with the primary goal of satisfying customer requirements (Internal and External), satisfying quality, satisfying on time delivery.

This role will be working with our Lamination Team.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Actively serves as the Manufacturing Process Expert resolving issues on the floor and addressing concerns of both management and production personnel for their area.
  • Responsible for ensuring manufacturing team is equipped and knowledgeable on their upcoming production orders at least one week in advance of processing.
  • Provides production team with all relevant design interpretation including process specs and work instructions.
  • Ensures all assembly and test tooling is available in advance. This includes location of existing tooling and/or the design and fabrication of new tooling.
  • Responsible for product test set-up and configuration development.
  • Leads Manufacturing Design Reviews prior to design release to identify issues with manufacturability, quality, costs, and/or delivery.
  • Writes Engineering Change Requests for improvements identified by the manufacturing team in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for ensuring all quality related notification are captured and addressed.
  • Supports all production project needs including New Machine Builds, Service ReBuilds, and Spare Parts production.
  • Proactively works to understand and communicate all the above aspects for the next 4-8 projects in queue.
  • Partners closely with LEAN Continuous Improvement Program Manager to study existing manufacturing processes and prioritize highest impact opportunities.
  • Applies LEAN Tools and Principles to optimize the manufacturing processes developed.
  • Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives to drive bottom line improvements.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering degree required; experience manufacturing electric motors and/or generators preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an industrial equipment manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience designing and fabricating production tooling
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Required
  • Proficient with Solidworks, Autocad, Ansys, and vibration analysis tools such as nCode
  • Knowledge of SAP plus.
  • Demonstrated record of managing projects that produce quantifiable-bottom-line improvements.
  • LEAN Practitioner; successful at applying LEAN concepts to industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Competent public speaker capable of interacting with all levels of staff
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Optimize information and process flow, and manufacturing process
  • Customer interaction and management skills are essential
  • Must be able to read | interpret work orders, prints and specifications.
  • Self-starting, results oriented, flexible, team player
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to teach, motivate, and work with all levels of production and support personnel.
  • Ability to lead | interact with teams to obtain consensus, and as an individual contributor.
  • Ability to communicate and present detailed, technical initiatives to non-technical people.
  • Ability to work closely with shop personnel to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage completion of assignments through appropriate personnel.

Physical Requirements

  • Several tasks require to work in leaning over, extended back position repeatedly, occasionally tight spaces, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Physical ability to travel freely within manufacturing and office facilities. This requires climbing stairs and moving over, around, and about shop machinery. Have the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds unassisted.
