Electric Machinery was founded in 1891. For over 125 years, Electric Machinery has earned its reputation for designing, manufacturing, and servicing large, custom-engineered electrical motors and generators for the U.S. and worldwide markets. Electric Machinery services oil and gas refinery, chemical, utility, general industrial, pulp and paper, and municipal markets. Electric Machinery products include, synchronous and induction motors, generators and brushless exciters. Electric Machinery’s design and production facility is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Electric Machinery is looking for a motived employee who is aligned with our listed Major Areas of Accountability. We welcome individuals with prior manufacturing engineering experience to help develop, validate, re-evaluate and improve production processes and manufacturing capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact in the final assembly and testing of finished and repaired products.

Primary Objective of Position:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for defining, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods and processes to optimize safety, quality, and efficiency. Utilizing engineering and manufacturing drawings, work instructions, process specifications, or process labor routings you will be part of the production support team with the primary goal of satisfying customer requirements (Internal and External), satisfying quality, satisfying on time delivery.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  1. Aligns with Electric Machinery’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Quality Policy.
  2. Fosters a culture and practices the principles of continuous improvement and excellence.
  3. Develop new or more economical manufacturing technologies and processes.
  4. Identification and implementation of methods and practices to achieve operational improvements in efficiency, quality, delivery, and operating profits.
  5. Provides technical information and recommendations concerning manufacturing techniques, materials, and process advantages and limitations which affect short and long range plant and engineering planning.
  6. Analyzes workforce space requirements, workflow, equipment layout, and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  7. Determination of feasibility of purchasing new plant equipment or modifying existing equipment or facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors along with developing payback calculation and justification for such investments.
  8. Manages multiple, parallel projects using proven project management techniques.
  9. Integrated into assembly, test, and repair shift meetings, planning and quality.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Effective communication both verbal and written in English, including active listening.

Ability to efficiently and effectively manage completion of assignments through appropriate personnel

Demonstrated ability to propose, plan, and implement creative solutions in a team environment.

Demonstrated knowledge of disassembly, assembly and testing processes

Experience implementing Lean Principles, 5S, Kaizen Events, Value Stream Mapping, and Six Sigma

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including active listening

Familiarity with CAD system, AutoCAD and Solid Works preferred.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, internet and e-mail

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift Twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.

Some tasks may require lifting in excess of Forty-five (45) pounds.

Several tasks require to work in leaning over, extended back position repeatedly, occasionally tight spaces, squatting, and kneeling.

Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.

Work on Ladders and Platforms.

Work at Heights.

Must be able to read work orders, prints and specifications.

Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing specialization) or 10+ years equivalent work experience in manufacturing engineering with a High School diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D) diploma. 

Experience: 5+ years’ experience manufacturing engineering of assemblies
