Position: Electrical Engineering Supervisor

Primary Objective of Position:
The Electrical Engineering Supervisor leads and develops the electrical engineering team responsible for electromagnetic design, electrical systems, and controls for large rotating machines. This role provides both technical and people leadership—ensuring design quality, manufacturability, and performance—while driving innovation in design automation, digital tool integration, and technology transfer. Partnering with the Mechanical Design Supervisor; position forms one of the two core technical pillars of the Engineering leadership team. Together, these supervisors ensure collaboration across disciplines and alignment with WEG’s global engineering initiatives.
Major Areas of Accountabilities:
- Supervises, mentors, and evaluates Electrical Engineers; provide technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Sets clear objectives aligned with departmental strategy and WEG’s global standards.
- Partners with the Mechanical Design Supervisor to align team priorities, workload balance, and shared development goals.
- Promotes continuous learning, professional growth, and technical excellence within the electrical design team.
- Oversees electromagnetic, insulation, and control system design for motors and generators across all product lines.
- Reviews calculations, drawings, and specifications for compliance with standards, customer requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Collaborates with Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Test teams to ensure integrated and manufacturable designs.
- Leads resolution of technical issues during production and testing.
- Drives digital design and automation initiatives—improving efficiency and accuracy in design tools, templates, and processes.
- Champions use of simulation and modeling technologies (e.g., FEA, electromagnetic field analysis, digital twins).
- Supports PLM/PDM system integration and development of shared design databases.
- Coordinates with IT, R&D, and Global Engineering to pilot emerging tools that enhance engineering productivity.
- Acts as the key liaison between U.S. and Brazilian electrical design teams to ensure consistency of standards, tools, and design methodologies.
- Leads knowledge-sharing sessions, documentation efforts, and standardization of calculations and processes.
- Facilitates co-development of new product platforms and advanced design techniques across sites.
- Identifies and implement process improvements to enhance design quality, responsiveness, and cost-effectiveness.
- Participates in or lead cross-functional projects aimed at advancing digital engineering capabilities.
- Supports the transition from manual to automated data-driven design systems.
- Contributes to R&D and new product introduction (NPI) efforts as a technical lead.
- Supports the Engineering Manager in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Tracks engineering costs, resource utilization, and performance metrics.
- Ensures timely delivery of accurate designs and documentation.
- Domestic and international travel up to 20–25%.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering required (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
- Minimum 6 years of experience in motor/generator design or high-voltage rotating equipment.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or mentoring engineers.
- Proven success improving design efficiency through process automation or digital tools.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration and global coordination preferred.
- Strong foundation in electromagnetic design, insulation systems, and electrical machine theory.
- Familiarity with high-voltage design, control systems, and test methodologies.
- Proficiency with electrical analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, FORTRAN, MATLAB, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of CAD, PLM, and data management systems.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 documentation and design validation requirements.
- Effective communicator and team collaborator across technical and organizational boundaries.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable with complex problem solving.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, engineered-to-order environment.
- Strong commitment to ethical, safety, and quality standards consistent with the WEG Code of Ethics.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to travel freely within manufacturing and office facilities. This requires climbing stairs and moving over, around, and about shop machinery.
- Have the physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to climb stairs.
Salary:
$90k to $110k annually
